Exponential Functions
The Exponential Function with Base e
Mathematicians have discovered an important irrational number that
occurs in many different places, including when dealing with exponential
functions.
The number is referred to by the letter e (for exponential). The value of e
is approximately 2.718281... .
Thus, f(x) = ex is referred to as the natural exponential function and e is
referred to as the natural base.
Note:
The number e is an irrational
number, like π and
This means that the decimal
representation of e never
terminates and never repeats.
